Damn close to the milling machine

ProLine takes milling performance to a whole new level.

Damn close to a milling machine—that’s what BCS Maschinenbau in Kirchheim unter Teck wanted to achieve together with us as part of a retrofit project. The goal was to modify an existing turning-milling center so that the turret would produce milling results that closely match the performance of traditional milling spindles.

To this end, BCS overhauled an INDEX G300 and upgraded it with a SINUMERIK ONE control system from Siemens. The turret disc was converted from a V-groove alignment to a W-tooth design and additionally equipped with four mounting threads—for greater stability and better vibration damping. The newly developed turret is marketed by BCS under the name “BCS-EWS-ProLine” and is also available as a replacement module for standard machines. At the same time, our developers have created the “ProLine” tool line, tailored to the requirements of the modified turret disc. To reduce setup time, the EWS.Varia VX quick-change system was used without any modifications.

The video shows the result.

The material machined was:

Material: 42CrMo4 (hardened to 1,000 N/mm²)

Milling head: Ø 40 mm with 4 cutting edges

Speed: 1,400 rpm

Feed rate: 0.6

Depth of cut: 2.5 mm

By the way, ProLine tools can also be used on standard turrets—with a noticeable difference in stability and machining quality.
